Blood alcohol concentration of awareness

As a curator both in class and online alcohol awareness classes, I always discuss the blood alcohol concentration (BAC) each of my students had when they were arrested. Not all my students for drunk driving. About half of my students are arrested for other crimes as minor holdings, public drunkenness and open containers.

It is important to understand your body and how alcohol affects it. If you plan to consume alcoholic drinks should you really understand what BAC is and why this number can mean the difference between a law follows the street and breaking the law, or worse, it can mean the difference between life and death!

BAC-what is it?

BAC is exactly what it sounds like-blood-alcohol concentration. In layman's terms when drinking alcoholic beverages, alcohol is absorbed in the body. Apparently you drink more, in more alcohol in your bloodstream, increasing your BAC. This number is numeric, parts of alcohol per total parts of blood. Basically, it is a measure of drunkenness. In the United States, the legal BAC. 08%.

Do you think it is a high or low figure? It appears that less than a tenth of a percent would be continent. A BAC of higher than 20-one fifth of a percent, can be deadly!

3 factors determine BAC

The first factor to consider when understanding BAC is body weight. Of course, retain the heavier, more tissues and blood, the more alcohol can be absorbed and yet the same BAC, which lightens the person drink less.

The second factor, as important as the first, is how much alcohol is consumed. You've probably heard that all normal beverages have the same amount of alcohol in them (12 oz beer, 5 oz glass of wine, 1.5 oz-1 shot of hard liquor). Each of these drinks has about 60 grams of alcohol each. If you are drinking from home it would be advisable to look carefully at your hard drive liquid drinks such as bars and restaurants establishments are known to be "heavy handed."

The third and equally important is time. Logically, the more you drink in a shorter period of time, the higher will be your BAC.

The body's power to eliminate toxins!

If you didn't know, alcohol is toxic to the human body. Fortunately, for those who drink, the human body is good at eliminating toxins from the system and alcohol is no exception.

Approximately 10% of all alcohol is absorbed in the body be eliminated through sweat, urine, breath, and the remainder will be allocated in. It is the function of the liver to detoxify the rest. The liver can process approximately half an ounce of alcohol per hour-a little less than an ordinary beverage. Remember it takes up to 40 minutes after the alcohol consumed to be totally absorbed in the body. If the average rate of elimination is. 015% per hour, even when the legal limit of 0.08%, taking the body for more than 5 hours to eliminate everything.

Alcohol abuse is a serious problem. If you or someone you know suffers from alcoholism, I urge you to seek help. If you prefer to maintain complete anonymity in the online alcohol awareness classes available.

Mike Miller is education Director at Online alcohol class, a site specializing in alcohol awareness classes and minor in possession of the classes.
